There is currently a nationwide shortage of medication that helps to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing problems and a growing global demand.

Our service provides private ADHD titration instead of waiting for NHS funding via Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of a single prescription.

A thorough evaluation of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by an experienced consultant Psychiatrist. This will include medical history and an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

After your evaluation, you will be advised that medication may be beneficial for your situation. This will be discussed during your follow-up appointment (which could be in person by video link, in person or via phone). Your doctor will explain the various options for medication and, if you choose to start on medication we will offer to titrate the dose to optimise the benefits/side effects balance for you.

This process may take several weeks and involves gradually adjusting your child’s medication until the appropriate balance has been achieved. It is not unusual to need to titrate two or three medicines before finding the one that is best for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is essential that parents take part in the titration and be on the lookout for their child's behavior so they can inform doctors whether the medication is working or causing adverse reactions.

If you decide to return to NHS care the medication you take will be issued with an individual prescription that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You'll be required to attend regular appointments every six months to monitor your medication, which includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual checks are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment has been completed you will be able to book appointment with the psychiatrist, as necessary. Usually the appointment will take place through a video call using zoom but in certain circumstances it is possible to have an audio-only consultation (again at an additional cost).

In this session, we'll discuss any treatment options we have and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration strategy. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose and any side effects that you may be experiencing. The titration sessions cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 by video or phone consultation. The pharmacy will be charged for any cost of medication.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions regarding your family history and Private ADHD Titration the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your daily life and any mental health issues you may be experiencing. This is due to the fact that ADHD can be a genetic condition and it is essential that we assess any family history that might indicate that you're at risk of developing the disorder.

During this assessment it is crucial that you are truthful and honest with the clinician, as they will be using the information you provide to determine whether you meet the diagnostic criteria for ADHD. This is a crucial step, since an incorrect diagnosis could lead to inappropriate medication prescription.

If you've decided you'd like to receive treatment for your ADHD, we will then set up a follow-up appointment with one of our psychiatrists who specialize in this area. If you want to start treatment immediately you can start treatment immediately following the diagnosis. You can also wait two weeks to think about the implications of the diagnosis and your options.

We suggest that if you are unsure about your preferences, you talk with your GP prior to scheduling your private examination. Some providers have different policies on whether they require a GP letter. We also suggest to confirm that your GP accepts a 'Shared Care Agreement', which means that once you are discharged from the clinic, you will be referred back to them for the medication prescription.

Medication

Medication is an integral part of the journey for many people seeking a private ADHD diagnosis. It isn't always easy to obtain a prescription from a psychiatrist on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long, and GPs are often reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

One method to circumvent this is to ask your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can select a provider that provides a private assessment service and the titration. This can cut down on wait time considerably and can be more convenient when you are working and have a busy schedule.

Once you've been recommended, your physician will examine your condition to determine if you require medication titration. You will be asked to fill in forms that vary by provider but the most common ones are self-report questionnaires and medical histories from childhood and adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor identify any conditions that could indicate that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medications if they're prescribed.

If you are being titrated on medication, this will usually be a combination of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. They will be tested and monitored to find the best combination for you. The process of titration can be lengthy and may require a few extra appointments before you're able to stay on your dose.

Depending on the type of medication you're taking, follow-up appointments will be either monthly or quarterly. This will involve your clinician making sure that you are taking the correct medication, recording any side effects you've experienced, and making any necessary adjustments to ensure that you remain on a dose that is safe. You will be required to attend an annual health check-up and regular health check-up that includes blood pressure, pulse, and weight measurements.

If you're required to discuss your titration plan or treatment plan further it is likely that you'll be referred to the private clinic that performed your initial evaluation. If this occurs, the titration consultation will be included in the consultation fees and they will be given their medication through a private prescription (see Consultation fees above). This may cost more than prescriptions from the NHS since the pharmacy will charge you for the medication.
